The Blu Room, UVB and Blood Pressure

As per a new study published in the Journal of the American Heart Association - The benefit obtained from exposure to sunlight in lowering blood pressure is not due to the Vitamin D aspect as previously thought but rather it is due to the UV light releasing nitric oxide in the skin. This release dilates arteries and lowers the systolic pressure (the first number in a blood pressure reading) by 2-3 millimeters. Dr. Richard Weller, professor of dermatology at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland explains- "A 3 millimeter systolic fall in blood pressure reduces cardiovascular events by 10% and you know, that's big." The UVB light used in the Blu Room targets the release of nitric oxide without the damaging elements of the other UV rays found in natural sunlight and tanning beds.
